Workers’ Compensation and Personal Injury Practices
The Law Office of Eric M. May, P.C. practices in the area of private sector workers’ compensation and personal injury in the District of Columbia and Maryland and also handles cases in Virginia in association with Virginia lawyers. The firm does not handle government workers’ compensation cases. The firm represents workers both injured on the job and in non-work-related injuries like auto accidents, construction accidents, and slips and falls. The firm also represents people affected by legal and medical malpractice. We deal with a wide variety of medical conditions including serious injuries to the back, neck, shoulder, head, knee, feet, hands, internal organs, carpal tunnel syndrome, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), occupational diseases, and death cases. Our clients work in various industries including construction, service industries, transportation, health care, maintenance, hospitality, trades, retail, administrative positions, and other professions.
This firm also handles cases when a worker is injured because someone other than the employer acts negligently. These cases are called third party claims. Unlike workers’ compensation claims, the injured employee may file suit in civil court to recover money damages for pain and suffering, wage loss, and medical expenses. However, in most instances, the workers’ compensation insurance company may then claim reimbursement in full or in part for money paid.
